Adams & Shue Set Program Marks As #1 Panthers Roll To 14-4 Triumph Over #25 Williams

The #1 Middlebury women's lacrosse team tallied the first six goals en route to a 14-4 victory over #25 Williams on Wednesday evening. During the contest, Caroline Adams set the career draw controls record, while Hope Shue became the program's all-time points leader.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers struck first with 12:01 remaining in the opening quarter. Kelcey Dion sent a pass from behind the goal to a blitzing Shue, who finished in the left panel for a 1-0 edge.
  • Shue added her second less than three minutes later off a feed from Maggie Coughlin that snuck past Ephs' goalie Caroline Pratt to make it 2-0.
  • Anna Spehr, Adams, Skylar Lach and Shue added four consecutive markers for a 6-0 lead after the first stanza.
  • Williams broke the scoring streak at the 12:52 mark of the second off a free position by Claudia Russell that bounced into the lower left portion to cut the deficit to five (6-1).
  • The Panthers capped the second stanza on a 3-0 run, bookended by Shue's fifth of the evening off a free-position for a 9-1 cushion at the half.
  • The visitors opened the third session with a marker just 36 seconds in off the stick of Franny Donohue for a 9-2 score.
  • Shue and Adams teamed up for back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 11-2 with 6:30 remaining.
  • At the 4:30 mark, Russell tallied Williams' third marker on a nifty shot that found the left panel, before Coughlin answered off a fastbreak clearance by Jamee Numan for a 12-3 lead after three.
  • Spehr found nylon on a quick stick feed by Dion and Sophia Lee buried a shot in the right panel to make it 14-3 with 11:52 left.
  • Williams capped the game on a dodge and score by Ainsley Abel for the final 14-4 result.

NOTES

  • With three draw controls, Adams surpasses Hollis Perticone '18 for the most in program history. The Panther now has 313 in her career, eclipsing the previous mark of 310.
  • Shue's seven points (6G, 1A) make her the program's all-time leader with 353. She passed Hall of Famer Amy DiAdamo '97 who had 347 and helped the program to its first NCAA Championship.
  • Lucy Bishop collected a career-high 12 draw controls in the triumph.
  • The Panthers tallied their fourth-consecutive undefeated regular season.

The NESCAC Tournament seedings will be announced late on Wednesday evening by the league office.
