Shue Becomes Program’s Goal Leader As #1 Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Bowdoin

The top-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team had an 8-1 lead at halftime and cruised to a 16-3 triumph over Bowdoin on Saturday. Hope Shue led the charge with six goals to become the program's all-time leading goal scorer.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Middlebury opened the scoring with 7:46 expired in the opening quarter. Shue blitzed through three defenders and finished in the right panel for a 1-0 edge.
  • Maggie Coughlin increased the advantage 2:02 later, finding the left side of the net on a nifty feed from Shue to make it 2-0.
  • Coughlin added her second of the contest at the 3:08 mark on another pass from Shue for a 3-0 score.
  • Bowdoin cut the lead to 3-1 on a shot from Grace Harvey that sailed just over the stick of Panther goalie Gina Driscoll.
  • Kelcey Dion and Shue added free-position goals to build Middlebury's lead to 5-1 with 5:59 remaining in the second.
  • Adams, Shue and Skylar Lach added free-position goals over the final 1:05 for an 8-1 game at the half.
  • Middlebury rattled off five-straight goals spanning the third quarter, highlighted by two free-position tallies from Adams, to make it a 13-1 contest.
  • The Panthers added two more tallies in the 2:30 of the final stanza from Shue.
  • Lauren Burke buried a shot in the left panel for the Polar Bears second goal of the contest at the 9:42 mark.
  • Maeve Lee added herself to the scoresheet with a free-position goal with 6:12 left to make the score 16-2.
  • Bowdoin closed the scoring on a free-position tally from Miya Imaeda for the 16-3 final score. 

NOTES

  • With her six goals, Shue has 233 in a Panther uniform, moving her past Amy DiAdamo '97 for the most in the program's history.
  • Adams and Coughlin each tallied a hat trick in the triumph.
  • Middlebury held a 17-5 advantage at the draw circle.
  • The Panthers earned their 10th-consecutive victory over the Polar Bears dating back to the 2018 campaign.

Middlebury heads to Troy, N.Y. to battle Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
