Adams Sets Single Game Draw Control Mark As #1 Panthers Top RPI 17-5

The top-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team tallied nine unanswered goals en route to a 17-5 victory at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). During the 55th-consecutive triumph, Caroline Adams set a single-game record with 16 draw controls.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury opened the scoring frenzy at the 12:07 mark when Skylar Lach drove to the goal and slotted a low side arm bid for the 1-0 edge.
  • A quick-stick tally by Maggie Coughlin followed by Siobhan Colin shaking a defender and burying the ball into the goal made it 3-0 with 9:22 remaining.
  • The Panthers tacked on five more markers to extend the advantage to 8-0. Anna Spehr struck on back-to-back bids, before an extra player tally came from Lach. Kelcey Dion converted on a free position from the left hash, and Hope Shue drove in 15 yards and found nylon for the eight-goal lead after one.
  • At the 12:15 mark of the second stanza, Kate Motley had a twister from the left side that snuck inside the right pipe to make it 9-0.
  • The Engineers broke up the spree when Ella Graf faked a defender and tucked the ball inside the left post with 10:50 remaining.
  • Coughlin, Burdine Atherton and Motley each recorded goals to bring the score to 12-1 at the halftime break.
  • RPI made it 12-2 with 12:17 left in the third quarter as Lisa Boehmer spun around in a sea of navy and bounced her shot in.
  • The teams traded the next five markers as Middlebury led 15-4 with one stanza to go.
  • Graff completed her hat trick with 12:20 left on the clock, before goals from Alexandra Walker and Maddie Ocampo capped the 17-5 win for the Panthers.
NOTES
  • The programs played for the ninth time with Middlebury claiming each.
  • The previous draw control record of 13 that Adams surpassed was set in 2023 by Jane Earley.
  • Walker's goal was the first of her career.
The Panthers host Bates on Saturday at noon before hitting the road for a pair of spring break contests.
