#1 Women’s Lacrosse Cruises To 18-1 Triumph Over Bates

The top-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team tallied 11 goals during the first half in an 18-1 triumph over Bates on Saturday from Peter Kohn Field. During the win, 12 different Panthers found the back of the net, including a hat trick from Hope Shue.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Middlebury opened the scoring with 11:39 left in the first quarter. Anna Spehr fired a free-position shot that snuck past Bobcat goalie Raegan White for a 1-0 edge.
  • The Panthers added another tally less than two minutes later from Caroline Adams, who slithered through three defenders and finished in the left panel to make it 2-0.
  • Middlebury tacked on five more goals, each by a different player, to hold a 7-0 lead after one quarter of action.
  • The Panthers continued to dominate in the second stanza. Maddie Ackerman, Adams, and Shue rattled off three-straight free-position goals to extend the score to 10-0 and force running time at the 10:50 mark.
  • Spehr tallied her second of the game with 2:15 to go, grabbing a feed in front by Shue and lacing a shot that sailed into the left side of the goal.
  • Bates found the scoreboard with six ticks left in the first half. Caitlin Quinn circled the arc and fired a bouncer that went over Gina Driscoll's stick and tucked just under the crossbar.
  • Middlebury added four markers in the third quarter, capped by a blitz and score from Ackerman for a 15-1 advantage.
  • Jamee Numan, Sophia Lee and Maddie Ocampo tallied the final three goals of the contest as the Panthers earned the 18-1 triumph.

NOTES

  • Five different Panthers had multi-goal outputs in the victory. Shue led the charge with three while Ackerman, Adams, Kate Motley and Spehr each had two apiece.
  • Lee scored her first goal in a Panther uniform.
