Eight Unanswered Goals Power #1 Middlebury Past #4 Gettysburg 15-6

The #1 Middlebury women's lacrosse team fell behind 3-0 early, but responded with eight-unanswered goals en route to a 15-6 win at #4 Gettysburg.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Bullets raced out to a quick start, rattling off a trio of tallies within the opening four minutes of the first quarter. Sophie Smith struck first with a nifty catch-and-spin marker, before Lauren O'Connell tucked her bid inside the right panel through a sea of navy. Julie Breedveld made it 3-0 using a quick-stick with 11:05 left.
  • The Panthers used the momentum of a player-up situation to fuel their 8-0 run. Caroline Adams got things going with a cross-body shot from the right side for the extra-player marker with 6:36 remaining.
  • Just 36 seconds later, Adams sent a pass from behind the goal to Maggie Coughlin who faked out the goalie and deposited her shot to make it 3-2.
  • Hope Shue weaved through a pair of defenders and slotted a shot into the upper-left corner, before Adams converted a free-position attempt at the 1:33 mark to give Middlebury a 4-3 edge.
  • The Panthers opened the second stanza with three-straight goals as Shue scored sandwiched around a pair from Adams for the 7-3 lead heading into the halftime break.
  • At the 12:58 mark of the third stanza, Coughlin scooped up a loose ball and scored for the 8-3 advantage.
  • Gettysburg answered immediately as Breedveld raced down the field and swiped nylon as a trio of Panthers closed in behind her.
  • Shue tucked the ball inside the left pipe, Skylar Lach recorded a quick-stick tally and Shue converted a free position while the Bullets served a penalty for an 11-4 lead with 6:23 left in the third.
  • Less than a minute later, O'Connor tallied a lefty shot that pinged off the right pipe and fell just behind goalie Gina Driscoll to make it 11-5.
  • Coughlin and Adams tallied back-to-back free positions, extending the lead to 13-5 with one quarter remaining.
  • At the 9:03 mark of the fourth frame, Julia Daly snuck a free-position bid through the five hole to make it 13-6.
