Hope Shue of the #1 Middlebury women's lacrosse team posted a career-high eight goals and the Panther defense limited #12 The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) to just three tallies over the final 49:25 of action for an 18-7 win.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Lions raced out of the gates in the first quarter with free-position goals from Ally Tobler and Abbie Teefy with 5:00 expired for a 2-0 lead.
- The visitors cut the lead in half 1:02 later when Shue made a nifty move past a defender and scored in the right portion of the net.
- TCNJ regained its two-goal edge 24 seconds later when Tobler scored on a quick-stick bid.
- Middlebury rattled off a three-goal spurt, including a pair from Shue, for a 4-3 advantage with 6:47 remaining.
- The Lions answered with consecutive goals by CJ Kole and Marissa Lucca to take a 5-4 edge at the 4:25 mark.
- Caroline Adams kickstarted the decisive run, leveling the contest (5-5) with a player-up opportunity in the right panel with 3:04 left in the opener.
- Shue gave Middlebury a 6-5 edge when she scored at the 11:08 mark of the second frame on a nifty feed from Maggie Coughlin.
- Coughlin increased the advantage to a pair (7-5) when she cut in from behind the goal and found the back of the net following a stick-to-stick pass from Skylar Lach at 7:54, while Shue scored in transition with 5:48 showing for an 8-5 halftime lead.
- The Panthers continued their run over the initial 3:41 of the third quarter, scoring three times on tallies from Lach, Adams and a free-position chance by Shue for an 11-5 lead.
- Tobler stopped the run for the Lions, ripping her shot just under the crossbar on a free-position opportunity with 7:49 left.
- Middlebury matched with markers from Coughlin, Sophia Lee and Lach for a 14-6 advantage at the 1:48 mark..
- TCNJ made it a seven-goal difference (14-7) with six seconds remaining when Tobler tallied into the lower-left corner.
- The Panthers posted four times in the final frame, including a pair from Shue alongside markers from Lee and Kelcey Dion for the final 18-7 score.

- Shue's career day consisted of eight goals on just 12 shots. That output is tied for the third most in a game in program history. She also earned a season-best six draw controls, ascending into a fifth-place tie in the program's record books with 182.
- Coughlin matched her career high with four assists to go alongside two goals.
- Kylie Wilson caused a pair of turnovers, pushing her into a third-place tie in the career records with 96.
- Driscoll picked up her 20th-straight win with four saves during three quarters of action, while Elizabeth Savage logged the final 15 minutes.
- The programs played for the 18th meeting with Middlebury holding a narrow 10-8 edge in the all-time series, with the Panthers claiming the last five contests.
