Game Recap: Field Hockey |

#1 Field Hockey Shuts Out #15 Wesleyan 5-0

The #1 Middlebury field hockey team extended its winning streak to 37-consecutive victories on Sunday, topping #15 Wesleyan 5-0.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Cardinals had the first quality chance of the contest coming just after a penalty corner with 5:52 elapsed. Wesleyan circled the ball around, before Kenzie Kelley blasted a shot that goalie Izzy Redzic turned away.
  • The Panthers took a 1-0 edge at the 7:46 mark following a corner of their own. Amy Griffin rifled a shot that snuck past goaltender Audrey Pace.
  • During the 17th minute, the Cardinals looked to get on the board following a penalty corner. The loose ball was batted around in the circle, but Ava Galdenzi's eventual shot sailed wide.
  • Middlebury increased its advantage to 3-0 in the second stanza. Sarah Bona dribbled down the left side of the circle and carried the ball to the endline. She shielded a Cardinal defender and sent a pass to Caroline Segal who blasted her shot into the cage from the doorstep at the 22:10 mark. Just over three minutes later, Griffin tried to score again. Pace got a piece of the hard shot, but Georgianne Defeo ensured the loose ball made it into the cage.
  • During the 40th minute, an initial shot by Emily Stone was denied, but Griffin batted the rebound out of the air and into the goal for the 4-0 advantage.
  • The Panthers capped the scoring at the 48:35 mark. Katherine Lantzy sprinted all the way down the field and sent a pass from the end line that Segal one-timed for the 5-0 decision.
