Early Offensive Push Helps #6 Men’s Soccer Take Down Trinity 9-0

The sixth-ranked Middlebury men's soccer team scored three goals in the opening 11 minutes and never looked back, defeating Trinity 9-0 on Saturday from South Street Field.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers earned their first quality look in the fifth minute. Colin Dugan fired a shot down the middle that Trinity goalie Felix Schmidt deflected outside the penalty area.
  • Gavin Randolph opened the scoring for the hosts 5:18 into the game, tucking a pass from Will Sawin into the bottom left corner to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The home team continued to apply pressure and found the net in the eighth minute. Eujin Chae was left alone near the top of the box and slid a shot into the bottom-left corner for his first goal of the season to make it 2-0.
  • Tyler Payne netted his second tally of the season four minutes later. A cross came in from the left that knocked off the bodies of Dugan and Randolph. Payne settled the ball and found the lower-left portion, building a 3-0 cushion.
  • Middlebury tacked on three more from Randolph, Hugo Horwitz and Eduardo Casanova to grab a 6-0 advantage at halftime.
  • Shane Farrell and Casanova scored goals about six minutes apart to open the second half.
  • Trinity had a strong chance late in the contest, serving a ball into the box off a corner kick. The Middlebury defensive unit stood tall, sending the ball out toward the midline on a deflection.
  • Samuel Dolan finished the scoring in the 90th minute, gathering his primary shot that bounced off the left post and firing it down the middle to give the Panthers a 9-0 victory.
