#1 Middlebury Tallies 35th Consecutive Win With 14-3 Triumph Over Connecticut College

The top-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team outscored Connecticut College 10-1 during the first half en route to a 14-3 victory over the Camels on Friday evening.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead after 5:07 of action as Kelcey Dion bounced a free-position shot into the bottom-left corner.
  • Dion struck again just 48 seconds later. An initial shot by Caroline Adams was saved, but Dion scooped up the rebound and flipped her bid into the net from close-range to make it 2-0.
  • Middlebury closed the opening quarter with three more goals. Hope Shue scored two free-position markers sandwiched around a nifty tally by Anna Spehr to give the Panthers a 5-0 advantage heading into the second stanza.
  • Connecticut College cut the deficit to four (5-1) on a goal by Kate Coughlin after only 40 seconds in the second quarter, but Niki Mormile responded with a player-down marker to make it 6-1 with 5:45 elapsed.
  • Less than a minute later, Adams found the back of the net with a free-position attempt before Shue completed her hat trick, firing a low shot into the bottom-left corner for the 8-1 advantage.
  • The Panthers added a ninth goal with 3:20 left in the first half. Charlotte Price slipped a pass to a cutting Shue who found the back of the net. 
  • Two minutes later, Skylar Lach made it 10-1 on the player advantage following a great pass from Dion. 
  • Middlebury continued to pull away to begin the second half. Adams tallied two markers over the opening 7:28 to increase the lead to 12-1.
  • In the fourth quarter, the Camels halted the Panther scoring frenzy with a free-position goal by Coughlin with 9:52 to go in the contest.
  • Kate Motley pushed the lead to 13-2 with 6:30 remaining, ripping a shot past Connecticut College goalie Violette Nidds and into the bottom left corner. 
  • Jamee Numan made it a 12 goal game (14-2) by sliding a free-position marker into the left corner before Camel Aine Downey found the back of the net with a free-position tally with 2:25 remaining to bring the final score to 14-3.
NOTES
  • With her two goals and one assist in the win, Dion has eclipsed the 100-point plateau for her career (65G, 35A).
  • With four goals today, Shue has tallied a point in 26-straight contests.
  • Middlebury and Connecticut College played for the 33rd time with the Panthers holding a 32-1 advantage. Middlebury has won 28-consecutive games in the all-time series.
  • The Panthers increased their winning streak to 35-straight contests.
Middlebury returns to Kohn Field on Saturday, March 30 when it hosts #8 Wesleyan at noon.
