Volleyball Falls In Straight Sets To #24 Colby

The Middlebury volleyball team dropped a NESCAC match in straight sets to #24 Colby on Saturday in Maine.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Tied at 6-6 in the opening stanza, consecutive Panther attack errors and a kill from Sarah Friedrichs allowed Colby to jump ahead 9-6.
  • Middlebury cut the deficit back down to one (9-8) on a Mule service error and a block from Gabby Pribisich and Gabbie O'Toole. 
  • Colby took back momentum immediately, using an LJ Grant kill to spark an 8-2 run to jump ahead by seven (17-10) and force a Panther timeout.
  • Devin McCormack and Molly Harrison provided a jolt of energy for the visitors, combining for three kills to cut the deficit down to one at 20-19. The Mules weathered the storm, securing the set (25-21) on a kill from Gabby Grujic.
  • Pribisich helped flip the script early in the second, securing a kill and two blocks to give Middlebury a 10-7 edge.
  • Colby battled back with a 6-2 run immediately after to retake the lead at 13-12. The surge continued for the hosts, as they stretched the advantage to 18-14 headlined by two kills each from Sydney Bopp and Cyanne Jones.
  • The Panthers pushed back with a Pribisich kill and consecutive attack errors by the home team to get within two (19-17) and force a stoppage. Middlebury could not get any closer, as Friedrichs sealed the stanza (25-19) and a 6-2 run with a kill.
  • Deadlocked at 7-7, Colby rattled off four-consecutive points for an 11-7 lead.
  • Lillian Caldwell cut the deficit to three (12-9) with a kill until the Mules won five of the next eight points to push their cushion to five (17-12). 
  • Harrison, McCormack and Ava Tuccio helped slice the deficit to two (22-20) with a kill each as part of a 6-3 spurt. 
  • Colby finished the set in style, recording back-to-back successful attacks from Friedrichs and Alexa Peguero for a 25-22 victory.
NOTES
  • Campbell Bartley recorded a team-best 13 assists in her first appearance in a Middlebury uniform.
  • Annabella Rando extended her streak of at least 10 digs to 13-straight matches finishing with 19.
  • Saturday's loss snaps an 11-match winning streak, which was the third-longest run in program history.
  • The Panthers and Mules battled for the 39th time with the Panthers holding a 26-13 edge in the series.
Middlebury returns for its final regular-season home match against Wesleyan on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
