Volleyball Earns Program’s 500th Victory With Sweep Of Eastern Nazarene

The Middlebury volleyball team swept Eastern Nazarene in straight sets on Saturday to conclude its five-match homestand. With the victory, the Panthers recorded the program's 500th all-time triumph.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Tied at 11-11 in a back-and-forth opening set, Middlebury rattled off a quick 5-1 run, capped by a kill from Lauren Baxter for a 16-12 advantage.
  • The Lions clawed their way back into the stanza, utilizing a 9-3 spurt for a 21-19 edge on a kill by Andrea Aceituno.
  • Middlebury closed the frame scoring six of the final eight points, highlighted by a kill from Ava Tuccio to win the opening set 25-23.
  • Knotted 3-3 in the middle stanza, the Panthers recorded a 9-3 run including a pair of kills from Gabby Pribisich for a 12-6 edge.
  • The Lions couldn't get any closer than five over the remainder of the set, as a kill from Molly Harrison provided the decisive point in a 25-16 victory.
  • Clinging to a 10-8 advantage in the third frame, Middlebury won the next seven points, highlighted by two kills each from Harrison and Tuccio, and cruised to the 25-11 triumph to secure the sweep.
NOTES
  • Harrison finished with 15 kills, marking the fourth-straight contest and the sixth time in eight matches this season that the Panther has posted a double-digit kill total.
  • Gabbie O'Toole posted 37 assists in Saturday's win, moving her into sixth place in the career record books with 1,878.
  • Tuccio recorded a career-high eight block assists in the victory.
  • Middlebury tallied a season-best .380 hitting percentage, led by Tuccio's .667 percentage (11-1-15).
  • Saturday's contest with Eastern Nazarene was the first between the schools in volleyball.
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday at Skidmore with the first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
