Volleyball Breezes Past Skidmore 3-0

The Middlebury volleyball team breezed past Skidmore in straight sets in midweek action. The Panthers picked up their fourth win in as many matches, moving to 6-3 on the year.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Leading 8-6 in the opening frame, Middlebury rattled off five unanswered points to storm into a 13-6 lead. Katie Kraczkowsky tallied two kills during the run. 
  • With a 17-9 advantage, the Panthers pulled away, winning eight of the final 12 rallies. Lexi Linafelter, Kraczkowsky and Molly Harrison scored the final three kills to claim the set by a 25-13 score.
  • The Thoroughbreds jumped out to a 3-0 edge in the second stanza. 
  • Middlebury responded by winning five of the next six points, highlighted by a service ace from Kelly Ferrero to take a 5-4 lead.
  • The teams battled throughout the middle of the frame. Holding a 13-11 advantage, the Panthers won seven of the next 10 points with Harrison recording two kills to take a 20-14 advantage.
  • Skidmore cut the deficit to three (23-20) on a service ace from Phoebe Yang, but Middlebury secured the final two points of the frame on kills from Kraczkowsky and Lillian Caldwell to earn the 25-20 victory.
  • The third set was a back-and-forth affair. Knotted at 13-13, the Panthers earned five-straight points to jump out to an 18-13 edge. 
  • Trailing 19-14, the Thoroughbreds went on a 5-0 run to level the contest at 19-19. 
  • Middlebury pulled away, winning six of the next seven rallies, capped by an ace from Gabby Pribisich to claim the set (25-20) and the match.
NOTES
  • The programs played for the 33rd time, with Middlebury owning a 25-8 advantage in the all-time series.
  • The Panthers have won the last 16 meetings, recording 3-0 sweeps in 11-straight contests.
  • Kraczkowsky equaled her career-high, recording 15 kills during the victory. 
  • Gabbie O'Toole registered 35 assists tonight, continuing her streak of registering at least 20 assists in 57 of her 58 career matches played.
  • With 11 kills tonight, Harrison has had five-consecutive double-digit kill games.
Middlebury will return to Pepin Gymnasium on Friday, September 29, when it hosts Tufts in NESCAC action at 7:00 p.m.
