Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

#17 Men’s Soccer Slips Past Endicott 1-0

The 17th-ranked Middlebury men's soccer team picked up its third-straight win, slipping past Endicott 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon to move to 4-0-1 on the season.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The first half was a defensive battle as both teams limited their opponents to few chances.
  • At the 36:47 mark, Colin Dugan looked to give the Panthers the lead. The forward broke into the box and fired a shot that was parried just wide of the left post by Gulls goalie Brett Roy.
  • With 4:46 to go in the half, Ryan Grady was forced into a crucial save. Hayden Laske cut inside the 18 and bent a right-footed effort toward the top right corner, but Grady dove to his left, tipping the ball over the crossbar to keep the score level at halftime.
  • Just 2:18 into the second half, Shane Farrell nearly gave Middlebury the advantage. He rose highest to win a header, but his shot clipped the top of the crossbar.
  • The Gulls almost broke through at the 53:01 mark. Following a deflected clearance in the box, Connor Rooney latched onto the loose ball and fired a low strike toward the bottom left corner of the goal. Grady sprawled to his right, making a fine one-on-one save to deny the bid.
  • The Panthers jumped in front in the 74th minute. Farrell drove into the penalty area and skipped past a defender before being tackled. Jordan Saint-Louis made no mistake from the spot, slotting his penalty kick home for the 1-0 edge.
  • Endicott threatened in the last five minutes of play, winning multiple corner kicks, but the Panthers defense stood strong and held on for the 1-0 victory.
NOTES
  • Saint-Louis netted his team-leading fourth goal and second penalty kick of the season.
  • The two programs met for the first time in men's soccer.
Middlebury will return to NESCAC play this weekend, taking on Bowdoin on Saturday at noon, and Bates on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
