Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

#17 Men’s Soccer Shares Points With Bowdoin In 2-2 Draw

The #17 Middlebury men's soccer team rushed out to a 2-0 lead over Bowdoin, but two second half goals from the Polar Bears leveled the score at 2-2 as the teams shared points in Saturday afternoon's NESCAC tilt.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers struck first after only 1:21 of action. Kyle Nilsson glided by his defender on the right flank and fired a low cross that Gavin Randolph redirected into the bottom right corner for a 1-0 edge.
  • Middlebury looked for a second goal at the 3:40 mark. Jordan Saint-Louis dribbled through multiple defenders and laid the ball off for Will Sawin who rifled a shot just wide of the right post.
  • At the 13:29 mark, the Panthers doubled their lead. Tyler Payne latched onto a pass and was taken down in the box by Bowdoin goalie Alex Ainsworth. Saint-Louis stepped up to the dot and buried his penalty kick into the right corner to make it 2-0.
  • Randolph nearly made it a three-goal advantage in the 36th minute, but his effort fell inches wide of the left post to keep the score 2-0 at the halftime break.
  • Middlebury continued on the front foot to begin the second stanza. Less than five minutes in, Randolph had a shot from just inside the 18 that was headed for the top corner, but Ainsworth tipped it over the bar. On the ensuing corner, Luke Madden headed an effort that bounced just wide of the right post.
  • The Polar Bears answered with a tally at the 51:41 mark. Felipe Duran rushed through on goal and slipped his shot from the right side past Ryan Grady to half the deficit (2-1).
  • Nilsson looked to restore the Panthers' two-goal edge six minutes later, but his header from close-range went wide.
  • Bowdoin equalized with 12 minutes remaining. Ronaldo Cabral fired a freekick from 25 yards that struck the right post and nestled into the corner of the goal to tie the game at 2-2.
  • Middlebury looked for the golden goal late in the contest, but Colin Dugan's curling shot soared just over the upper right corner as the match finished 2-2.
NOTES
  • Saint-Louis continues his fine goal-scoring form, netting his fifth tally of the season. He has found the back of the net in four of the Panthers' six contests.
  • The programs met for the 42nd time in an all-time series where the Panthers hold a narrow 17-14-11 edge.
Middlebury returns to South Street Field tomorrow to take on Bates at 1:30 p.m.
