Volleyball Falls To Williams In NESCAC Opener

The Middlebury volleyball team fell to Williams 3-0 in tightly-contested sets on Friday night in the NESCAC opener for each program. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The opening set saw both teams possess small leads before the Ephs turned an 11-11 tie into a 15-11 edge behind a quick 4-0 run.
  • The Panthers slowly chipped away at the deficit, cutting it to 16-14 on a kill from Gabbie O'Toole.
  • Williams responded with a 6-1 spurt, claiming the initial stanza by a 25-17 score.
  • Middlebury raced out to a quick lead in the second set, grabbing a 10-5 advantage on an Eph attack error.
  • Williams claimed 11 of the next 14 points, securing a 16-13 lead on a kill from Keely Campuzano. 
  • The Panthers pulled to within one (16-15) on a service ace from Kelly Ferrero, but the Ephs tallied four of the ensuing five points to secure the 25-20 victory.
  • In the third frame, the visitors quickly grabbed a 10-4 lead. 
  • Middlebury moved to within a trio of points on three separate occasions, but couldn't get any closer, as a service ace by Lauren Kauppila sealed the three-set win (25-18) for Williams.
NOTES
  • Molly Harrison finished with a team-high 11 kills for the Panthers, marking the third time she has posted a double-digit kill total this year.
  • Friday's matchup between the programs marked the 56th all-time meeting.
Middlebury continues its four-match homestand on Saturday when it hosts Amherst at 2:00 p.m.
