Volleyball Breezes Past Amherst In Straight Sets 3-0

The Middlebury volleyball team bounced back on Saturday afternoon, securing a 3-0 victory over Amherst. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The opening set was a back-and-forth affair. Trailing 11-9, the Panthers went on a 5-1 run, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Molly Harrison, to move into a 14-12 lead.
  • Later in the set with Middlebury holding a 17-14 edge, Amherst rattled off three-straight points to knot the stanza at 17-17.
  • The Panthers pulled away for a victory, winning eight of the next 10 points, capped by a kill from Gabbie O'Toole, to take the set by a score of 25-19.
  • Leading 7-5 in the middle frame, Middlebury scored nine unanswered points to storm into a 16-5 lead. Harrison, O'Toole and Katie Kraczkowsky each tallied kills during the run as the Panthers eased to a 25-13 victory in the second set. 
  • Middlebury picked up where it left off in the third frame, jumping out to a 4-0 advantage on a kill from Lexi Linafelter.
  • With the score at 8-4, the Panthers added to their lead, going on a 6-1 run, capped by a service ace from Harrison, to make it 14-5.
  • Middlebury continued to increase its advantage, winning six of the next 10 points to take an 11-point edge (20-9).
  • Ahead 22-16, the Panthers concluded the match claiming the final three points, as a kill from O'Toole gave Middlebury the 25-16 set triumph and a straight-set victory. 
NOTES
  • The programs met for the 49th time in the all-time series, with the Panthers winning seven of the last 11 contests.
  • Harrison (16) and Kraczkowsky (12) each registered double-digit kills during the victory.
  • Harrison has posted double-digit kill totals in four matches this season.
