Softball Concludes Regular Season With Twinbill At Trinity

The Middlebury softball team dropped the final twinbill of the regular season at Trinity on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers fell in the first game by a tightly-contested 3-2 scoreline before dropping the nightcap 7-3.
 
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Taylor Mikolajczak led off the bottom of the first with a triple and crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly by Kennedy Rodgers to give the Bantams a 1-0 edge.
  • Middlebury answered with a run in the third inning. Cece Ziegler singled and advanced a base. An RBI groundout from Kristyn Carroll plated Ziegler and tied the score at 1-1.
  • Trinity regained the lead in the fourth. Abigail Alper reached on a fielder's choice and rounded the bases to score on a single by Alyssa Gazivoda to make it 2-1.
  • The Panthers leveled the contest at 2-2 in the fifth. Ziegler began the inning by reaching first on a Bantam miscue before moving to second on a grounder by Johnson. Carroll recorded her second RBI of the day on a single that brought home Ziegler.
  • Trinity scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. With runners on the corners, Rogers doubled to center driving in a run and giving the Bantams the 3-2 victory.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury jumped in front in the opening frame. Johnson and Carroll each led off with back-to-back doubles which gave the Panthers a 1-0 edge. Two batters later, Megan Fox smacked a base hit to right which plated Carroll for the 2-0 lead.
  • The Bantams tallied six runs in the third to take a 6-2 advantage. With runners on second and third, Mikolajczak singled up the middle to drive in a pair of runs and tie the game. With the bases loaded later, Rodgers doubled to left field to give Trinity a two run edge (4-2) before tacking on two more runs to bring the score to 6-2.
  • Gillette scampered home on a Panther miscue to make it 7-2 in the fourth, before Carroll blasted a home run to right center in the fifth to bring the final score to 7-3.
NOTES
  • Middlebury and Trinity played for the fifth and sixth times in the all-time series. 
The seeding announcement for the NESCAC tournament will be made tonight.
