Bevere Notches 300th Win With Doubleheader Sweep Over Wesleyan

The Panther softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep over Wesleyan on Saturday, as head coach Kelly Bevere notched her 300th career win. Due to field conditions, the game was moved to Middlebury, but the Cardinals remained the home-designated team.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Jordyn Johnson scampered home on a wild pitch, before Megan Fox belted a home run over the center field fence as she followed Abby Santis home for the 3-0 advantage.
  • Wesleyan got one run back in its first at-bat when Hannah Dockstor touched the plate on an error, making it 3-1.
  • Middlebury made it 5-1 in the second inning when Johnson took advantage of fielding and throwing errors by the player on second base, before a double by Santis drove in Kristyn Carroll
  • In the top of the seventh, Fox blasted a two-run double that hit the left-field fence, bringing home Johnson and Caroll. A single to deep left by Tori Papaleo plated Lizzie Hannafey who pinch-ran for Fox, securing the 8-1 victory for the Panthers.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • In its first at-bat, Middlebury took a 1-0 edge. Carroll doubled and advanced to third on an error, before touching home on a ground out by Santis.
  • Santis belted a single to deep center in the third to score Johnson, before Carroll crossed home on a double down the left-field line by Fox to make it 3-0.
  • In the fifth, Carroll smacked a two-run homer down the right-field line, increasing the Middlebury advantage to 5-0.
  • Wesleyan cut the deficit to 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth. With the bases loaded, the McKenna Lont-Fox combination made an out at home to deny the Cardinals a score, but Isabella Secaira-Cota belted a triple to right field to bat in three runs.
  • That was as close as Wesleyan could get, as the Panthers held on for the 5-3 win.
NOTES
  • Fox had a pair of doubles and a round-tripper on the day, while tallying five RBI.
  • Johnson was a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen bases.
  • Middlebury has won six-straight games against Wesleyan, owning a 39-23 overall mark in the series.
The Panthers have a tight turnaround, hopping on the bus and traveling to Trinity for a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
