The top-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team capped its regular season with a decisive 19-4 triumph over #15 Williams. The win was the 20th straight for the Panthers, securing the top seed for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament with a perfect 10-0 mark in league action and a 15-0 overall record.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Middlebury opened the scoring with 1:52 expired in the first quarter, as Jane Earley drove down the middle of the circle and found nylon for the 1-0 edge.
- The Panthers doubled their advantage at the 9:43 mark when Caroline Adams converted a free-position marker.
- The Ephs cut the deficit in half (2-1) with 7:38 left in the frame when Grace Collier found the back of the net while sandwiched between a pair of defenders.
- Susan Rowley and Kelcey Dion each scored to increase Middlebury's lead to 4-1, before Williams' Lauren Morganlander found a cutting Collier for a quick Ephs goal to make it 4-2 at the break.
- Williams carried its momentum into the second stanza, scoring a pair of quick tallies. Sasha Landau turned on a defender and slipped the ball inside the goal, before Morganlander fought her way through traffic to tie the contest at 4-4.
- The Panthers responded with six-unanswered goals to close out the half, highlighted by a hat trick from Jamee Numan. Two of Numan's markers were bounced in on free positions.
- Middlebury didn't let up the rest of the game, going on a 9-0 run over the final pair of quarters. Earley and Numan each had a hat trick over the final half, bringing the Panther score to 19-4 to earn the undefeated season.
NOTES
- Numan's seven points were a career high.
- Chloe Newman had a pair of career bests during the contest, causing five turnovers and scooping up six groundballs.
- With five goals tonight, Earley moves into second place on Middlebury's all-time scoring list with 194.
- This marks the second time in the last three seasons that the Panthers have recorded an undefeated regular-season mark.
- Middlebury was 15-for-16 on clears during the triumph.
The Panthers have secured the top seed of the NESCAC Tournament and will host a quarterfinal contest on Saturday on Kohn Field. The tournament field, along with game times, will be released later tonight.
