The #1/top-seeded Middlebury women's lacrosse team rushed past 24th-ranked/eighth-seeded Bowdoin 16-6 in the quarterfinal round of the NESCAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers will host the remainder of the tournament next weekend, taking on fourth-seeded Colby at noon on Saturday, while second-seeded Wesleyan takes on third-seeded Tufts at 3:00 p.m.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Kelcey Dion scored a free position goal after only 38 seconds of play to give Middlebury a 1-0 lead.
  • The Polar Bears responded with two markers to take a 2-1 edge. Sophia Schaefer found the back of the net 43 after Dion before a free position tally from Sophia Sudano put Bowdoin up.
  • Hope Shue leveled the contest with 5:13 elapsed in the opening stanza. The attacker cut to the middle and received a pass from Jane Earley before firing the ball past Polar Bear goalie Sophia Brett to make it 2-2.
  • Middlebury regained the lead at the 7:03 mark. Susan Rowley caused a turnover and found Shue breaking forward. Shue carried the ball 50 yards before slotting her shot past Brett for a 3-2 edge.
  • The Panthers closed the first quarter with three unanswered goals over the final 5:27. Caroline Messer cut into the middle and was found by Caroline Adams for an easy score, before Shue tallied a pair of markers to give Middlebury a 6-2 lead after one quarter of action.
  • Shue picked up where she left off, scoring a free position goal at the 7:45 mark in the second stanza. The tally was the only one scored in the quarter as the Panthers took a 7-2 lead into the halftime break.
  • After 55 seconds of second half action, Shue scored her fourth-consecutive marker to give Middlebury a six goal advantage (8-2).
  • Fiona Bundy and Susan Rowley traded goals in the third quarter. Bundy began by weaving through the Panther defense and slotting home her shot at the 10:49 mark. Rowley answered with a goal of her own, cutting into the middle and firing a shot into the top shelf to make the score 9-3.
  • The Polar Bears closed to within three with a trio of unanswered goals over a 3:26 span. Colleen McAloon tallied back-to-back goals and Schaefer fired home a turnaround shot to cut the deficit to 9-6.
  • That was as close as Bowdoin would get, as Middlebury rattled off seven goals and held the Polar Bears scoreless for the final 20:26 of the contest to ease to a 16-6 victory.
