Strong Shooting Lifts Chicago Past The Panthers 88-64

The Middlebury men's basketball team concluded the UAA Challenge with an 88-64 defeat to the University of Chicago on Sunday night. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Maroons jumped out to a 10-2 advantage over the opening 3:11 when a two-point jump shot from Bryce Hopkins gave the visitors an eight-point edge.
  • The Panthers responded with a quick 5-2 burst over the next 36 seconds on a three-pointer from Evan Flaks and a layup from Noah Osher to make it 12-7.
  • Chicago went on another 10-2 run over the next 6:49, extending its lead to 13 (22-9) on a triple from Hopkins with 9:14 remaining.
  • The Maroons continued their hot shooting for the remainder of the half, moving to a 25-point advantage (46-21) with 1:12 to go, before a trio of free throws from Sam Stevens cut the deficit to 46-24 to end the first half. 
  • Trailing 61-33 with 15:23 to go, Middlebury went on an 8-0 run, highlighted by three jumpers from Osher and a layup from Jackson McKersie to pull to within 20 (61-41).
  • That was as close as the Panthers would get, as Chicago continued its stellar shooting and pulled away for the 88-64 triumph.
NOTES
  • Kuba Cwalina recorded his second-consecutive career-high output in points, tallying 13 in tonight's contest. Ian Murray also set a collegiate-best mark, registering five points. 
  • The programs played for the first time in men's basketball history.
Middlebury travels to Plattsburgh State to take on the Cardinals in a midweek clash on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
