Men’s Basketball Edged By Brandeis 65-60

The Middlebury men's basketball team was edged by Brandeis 65-60 in a back-and-forth contest on Friday night. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The teams traded baskets throughout the opening 7:23. With the score knotted at 10-10, the Judges put together a 5-0 run, capped by a layup from Jake Bender to take a 15-10 lead, with 10:21 left.
  • The Panthers responded with a 10-0 spurt of their own which lasted nearly five minutes. Noah Osher poured in eight of the team's 10 points during the run to extend the lead to five (20-15).
  • Trailing 29-19 with 1:57 remaining in the half, Brandeis closed the opening frame on a 6-2 run. Sam Aduesi nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the deficit to six (31-25) at the intermission.
  • The Judges picked up where they left off to open the second stanza, going on a 9-3 burst to level the score at 34 apiece on a jumper by Gabriel Otoo with 4:14 elapsed.
  • Holding a three-point edge (42-39), Middlebury rattled off a 5-0 run capped by a shot from beyond the arc by Sam Stevens to increase the advantage to eight (47-39) with 10:27 to go. 
  • With 4:54 remaining in the contest and the Panthers holding a 55-52 lead, Brandeis reeled off eight unanswered points over the next 2:26 to storm to a 60-55 advantage on a pair of free throws from Adusei.
  • Middlebury tied the game at 60-60 with 1:19 left in the game. Evan Flaks knocked down a jump shot before Jaden Bobbett sank a clutch three-pointer to knot the score.
  • The Judges locked in on the defensive end and closed the game with the last five points. Bender scored on a tip-in with 34 seconds remaining, before the hosts sank three free throws to secure the 65-60 victory. 
NOTES
  • Osher poured in a game-high 20 points, taking his career total to 943 points.
  • With 10 rebounds in the game, David Brennan secured his 27th career double-digit rebounding game. 
  • The programs squared off for the 27th time with the Judges holding a narrow 15-12 edge in a series that started in 1966. The sides met for the first time since the 2001-02 season.
The Panthers return to action when they open NESCAC play with a 7:00 p.m. home contest against Hamilton.
