The Middlebury men's basketball team came up short in its NESCAC opener, falling 70-61 to Hamilton on Friday evening.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Trailing 4-3, the Continentals countered with 12 unanswered points, taking a 15-4 lead on a three from Connor Jenkins at the 14:44 mark.
- The Panthers put together a quick 5-0 spurt, cutting the deficit to six (15-9) with a shot from beyond the arc by Jaden Bobbett at the midway point.
- Hamilton led for the rest of the stanza, increasing its advantage to double-digits on a jumper by Owen Kane with 22 seconds remaining for the 31-21 halftime lead.
- Out of the break, the Continentals continued their momentum, and extended their advantage to as many as 19 points (43-24).
- Middlebury answered with a 10-2 burst, capped by a jumper from Edward Witherington at the 13:25 mark to slice the lead down to 47-34.
- The Panthers continued to chip away at the deficit, cutting the deficit to seven points (51-44) on a jumper by Evan Flaks with 9:31 remaining.
- Hamilton put together a 9-4 spurt over the ensuing 5:34, taking a 60-48 lead on a jumper from Garret Keyhani.
- A three-pointer from Tristan Joseph with just under two minutes to go brought Middlebury within seven (62-55), but that was as close as the Panthers would get.
- The squad fouled down the stretch, but were unable to pull closer than seven points as Hamilton secured the 70-61 victory.

- Middlebury and the Continentals met for the 50th time this evening.
The Panthers continue their home NESCAC weekend on Saturday, entertaining Amherst at 3:00 p.m.
