The Middlebury women's basketball team utilized a big second-quarter to pull away from Vermont State University-Castleton, easing to a 75-57 victory. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS

• The Spartans jumped out to a 7-2 advantage, capped by a three-pointer from Stasia Epler at the 6:54 mark. 
• Middlebury responded with eight unanswered points, to take a 10-7 lead with 3:30 remaining in the opening quarter. 
• The Panthers maintained their advantage, before a layup from Emily Downer with eight ticks left on the clock gave Middlebury an 18-12 edge after one stanza of action.
• The Panthers slowly increased their lead during the second session, closing out the quarter with 11 unanswered points, making it 38-23 at the break.
• Middlebury continued pulling away in the third quarter. Ahead 47-33, the squad went on a 9-0 run sparked by a shot from beyond the arc by Alexa Mustafaj. 
• Castleton had a four-point burst to close out the stanza, as the Panthers led 56-37.
• Middlebury maintained a sizeable lead for the remainder of the contest, easing the to the 75-57 victory.

 
NOTES

• For the second-consecutive game, Augusta Dixon tied her career-best in rebounds, pulling down 13 to go along with six points, two steals and a block.
• Kale Tornwini and Downer had career-best point totals (14), while Downer also blocked three shots. 
• The programs met for the 34th time with Middlebury holding a 24-10 edge. 

The Panthers are idle until Monday when they travel to Union for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
