Mustafaj Pours In Career-Best 38 Points As Middlebury Topples #25 Bowdoin 84-68

Alexa Mustafaj scored a career-high 38 points as the Middlebury women's basketball team picked up its second-straight win over a ranked opponent, cruising past #25 Bowdoin 84-68. The Panthers improve to 3-0 in NESCAC play with the win.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Bowdoin opened the game on a 6-0 run over the first 3:27, scoring all its points in the paint.
  • With just under four minutes remaining in the quarter, the Polar Bears increased their advantage to eight (12-4), following a layup by Callie Godfrey.
  • Middlebury responded with an 11-2 spurt, taking a 15-14 lead on a three-pointer from Mustafaj with 1:31 left in the opening stanza.
  • The Panthers started the second quarter by scoring 11 of the first 13 points of the frame, taking a 26-20 advantage on a layup from Emily Downer at the 5:09 mark.
  • With 3:18 left in the half, Augusta Dixon converted an old-fashioned three-point play, and Mustafaj added a layup to bring the Panther lead to double-digits (35-23).
  • Bowdoin ended the quarter with a 5-0 burst to cut the deficit to seven (35-28), heading into the break.
  • With 6:41 elapsed in the third quarter, a layup from Reagan McDonald increased Middlebury's advantage to 49-37. 
  • Calie Messina nailed a long-distance three-pointer as time expired to give the Panthers a 54-41 edge heading into the final period of play.
  • Bowdoin managed to get as close as eight (59-51) during the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as Middlebury eased to the 84-68 win.
NOTES
  • The triumph was Middlebury's first win over the Polar Bears since 2000, and first triumph at Bowdoin since 1995.
  • Mustafaj recorded a career-high 38 points during the contest. She also broke a school record during the triumph, converting on all 16 of her free-throw attempts.
  • McDonald registered 14 points in the win and continued her streak of sinking at least one three in 22 of her last 28 games.
