Top-Ranked Field Hockey Blanks Castleton

Seven different players scored for Middlebury as the top-ranked Panthers cruised to an 8-0 win at Castleton. Middlebury finished the contest with a 51-0 shots advantage and a 15-4 edge in penalty corners. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers scored twice in the opening quarter, as Audrey Lazar made it 2-0 with a one-time finish on the doorstep as part of a penalty corner with 9:13 elapsed.
  • The visitors outpaced Castleton 3-0 in the second stanza. Amy Griffin capped the scoring frenzy with 6:03 left on the clock on a seven-yard blast from the center for a 5-0 halftime lead.
  • The Spartans had their best scoring chance in the third quarter. The hosts earned back-to-back penalty corners nearly 10 minutes into the frame, but the Middlebury defense denied both opportunities.
  • The Panthers scored three times in the fourth quarter for the final 8-0 margin.

NOTES

  • Ellie Harrison and Grace Keefe both tallied their first collegiate goals in the victory. 
  • Grace Harlan earned her 16th career shutout, moving her into third place in the Middlebury record books.
  • The Panthers extended Division III's longest winning streak to 31-consecutive triumphs.
  • Middlebury won its 11th-straight season opener.
