Volleyball Sweeps Skidmore In Straight Sets

The Middlebury volleyball team manufactured big runs in each of its three sets, cruising to a 3-0 sweep over Skidmore in Pepin Gymnasium. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Ahead 7-5 in the opening set, the Panthers scored eight of the following 12 points for a 15-9 advantage capped on a block by Lucy Ambach and Ava Tuccio.
  • The Middlebury lead grew to as many as 10 (22-12) on a service ace from Laney Sullivan, as the Panthers eased to the 25-14 victory.
  • Trailing 11-10 in a tight second stanza, Middlebury went on a 9-0 run, fueled by a trio of kills from Katie Kraczkowsky and a strong service run by Manya Kula, for a 19-11 lead. 
  • Skidmore couldn't get closer than seven the remainder of the set, as a kill by Lillian Caldwell lifted the Panthers to a 25-16 triumph and a two-set advantage.
  • Knotted at 4-4 in the third, Middlebury went on a 9-3 burst, capped by a kill down the line from Kraczkowsky for a 13-7 lead.
  • The Thoroughbreds chipped away at the deficit, cutting it to just two (14-12) on a cross-court kill from Maya Stolarz. 
  • The Panthers answered with four-consecutive points, taking an 18-12 lead on a kill from Ambach.
  • Skidmore responded with three-straight points, pulling to within three (18-15) on a service ace by Tiffany Flores. 
  • Middlebury again rattled off the following four points and was never challenged, as a kill from the middle by Lexi Linafelter completed the sweep by a final 25-18 tally.
NOTES
  • Gabbie O'Toole finished with 30 assists in the victory, giving her 1,201 for her career. That assist mark moves her into ninth place in the Panther record books.
  • O'Toole continued her streak of recording at least 20 assists in every match during her time as a Panther.
  • Middlebury increased its home winning streak to 13-straight triumphs.
  • The Panthers have won 15-consecutive contests over Skidmore.
  • Kraczkowsky finished a career-high 15 kills.
