#12 Panthers Storm Past Plattsburgh State 78-59

Head coach Jeff Brown secured his 450th career victory in the win as the 12th-ranked Middlebury men's basketball team picked up a 78-59 triumph over Plattsburgh State in its home-opener on Wednesday night. All 18 Panthers registered minutes during the victory.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Noah Osher and Alex Sobel combined for the first nine points of the game for Middlebury, helping the Panthers jump out to a 9-5 edge with 5:03 elapsed in the first half.
  • The Cardinals kept pace with the Panthers in the early stages, and a pair of free throws from Jalen Pitts leveled the score at 15-15 with 11:29 remaining.
  • Middlebury scored 10-unanswered points, capped by a three-pointer from Jaden Bobbett with 8:03 left in the half to take a 25-15 lead.
  • With 3:53 remaining in the first frame, back-to-back baskets from Osher and David Brennan pushed the Panther advantage to 33-22.
  • With 18:09 expired, Evan Flaks drilled a jump shot to give Middlebury a 37-24 edge. 
  • Plattsburgh State responded with a 5-0 run of its own to make the score 37-29 as both teams headed to the locker room.
  • The Panthers continued their strong play to open up the second half. Leading 37-31 at the 19:42 mark, Middlebury rattled off a 17-2 run over the next 7:46, to take a 54-33 lead.
  • Osher hit a long three-pointer with 7:27 remaining, giving the Panthers their largest advantage of the game (71-46). Middlebury would not look back from that point, maintaining its sizable lead to see out the 78-59 win.   
NOTES
  • With his five blocks tonight, Sobel has at least one blocked shot in the last 32 contests and moves into third place all-time in the Middlebury record books (190).
  • Osher led all scorers with 21 points, while converting on four shots from beyond the arc.
  • Middlebury has won seven of the last eight meetings between the two teams.
