#14 Men’s Basketball Holds Off Strong Comeback Attempt By Endicott

The #14 Middlebury men's basketball team increased its lead to as many as 25 points in the second half and held off a strong comeback attempt by Endicott to secure a 74-63 victory on the road Sunday. With the win, the Panthers remain unbeaten through four contests.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • A three-pointer followed by a layup from Alex Sobel got things going for Middlebury, giving the visitors a 5-2 early edge at the 17:09 mark. 
  • The middle of the stanza featured back-and-forth action with the score tied up on three occasions over the ensuing 4:30.
  • Trailing 16-14 with 12:04 remaining in the half, the Panthers went on a 10-2 run. Noah Osher capped the span with a shot from beyond the arc to give Middlebury a 24-18 advantage with 7:24 to go.
  • Endicott's Jeff Hill answered with five-straight points to cut the deficit to one (24-23), but the Panthers responded with a 9-2 burst to close out the half with a 34-25 edge.
  • Middlebury did not let up out of the break, taking its largest lead of the game (60-35) on a layup from Sobel at the midway point of the stanza.
  • The Gulls answered with a 24-4 run, mounting a major comeback attempt over the final 10 minutes. Hill rattled off 11 points during the span to cut the deficit to just five (64-59) with 1:25 left on the clock.
  • Endicott was forced to foul in the waning minutes, and the Panthers were a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe to extend the advantage back out to double digits (72-59) with 23 seconds to go.
  • Evan Flaks made a layup sandwiched around a pair of Gulls' baskets for the 74-63 Middlebury triumph.  
NOTES
  • Osher was a perfect 4-4 with shots from beyond the arc, tying him for third place in the Panther record books. He has tallied at least one three-pointer in 20-straight contests. Osher was also 4-4 from the charity stripe, while contributing 16 points.
  • Sobel recorded his 24th career double-double (26 points, 10 rebounds) and was 4-5 in three-pointers. He has also recorded one block in 29-straight contests dating back to 2020.
