Panthers Finish As Runner-Up at Pablo Cato Tournament

The Middlebury women's basketball team dropped a 70-56 decision to Marymount, finishing as the Pablo Cato Tournament Runner-Up. 

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Saints rushed out to an early 7-0 advantage, with Symantha Shackelford hitting a three-pointer at the 7:15 mark.
  • Middlebury battled back and with 6:03 remaining in the opening quarter, the Panthers closed the gap to three points (12-9), following a layup from Reagan McDonald.
  • Marymount countered with a 12-4 run to end the quarter, taking a 24-13 lead into the break.
  • Augusta Dixon connected on a jumper at the 6:57 mark, and Middlebury went on to control the quarter, scoring 15 of the next 21 points to cut the deficit to five (34-29) at halftime. Gabby Stuart registered seven points during the stretch. 
  • Marymount rattled off 11-unanswered points to open the second half, taking a 45-29 lead at the 6:35 mark.
  • From there, the Saints never looked back, increasing their lead to 53-36 heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Middlebury slowly chipped into the Marymount lead, cutting the deficit down to single digits (60-51) with 1:53 remaining. The late surge wasn't enough, as the Saints eased to the 70-56 victory.
NOTES
  • Dixon earned All-Tournament Team honors.
  • McDonald recorded an all-around strong performance on the night, contributing 11 points, three assists, a block and a steal.
  • Middlebury cruised past Widener 66-39 to advance to the final, while Marymount defeated Oberlin 56-52 in its semifinal matchup.
  • Oberlin took home third place in the Pablo Cato Tournament with a 60-51 victory over Widener.
