Volleyball Closes Out Regular Season with 3-1 Win at Trinity

The Middlebury volleyball team ended the regular season on a high note, defeating Trinity in four sets, 3-1. With the win, the Panthers secured the sixth seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament and will face off against third-seeded Williams in quarterfinal action.

 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Trinity rushed out to an early 7-2 advantage in the first set, with two straight Lola Craig kills.
  • Middlebury countered with a 5-0 run of its own to level the set at 7-7.
  • Trailing 10-8, Middlebury rattled off eight of the next 10 points, highlighted by two Katie Kraczkowsky kills to make it 16-12.
  • The two teams traded points in the middle of the stanza. Leading 21-19, the Panthers took four of the next five points, winning the first set 25-20 with an Ava Tuccio kill.
  • The second set began as a back-and-forth affair. With Trinity leading 10-9, the Bantams scored six unanswered points, including two service aces from Kaila Dowd to take a 16-9 advantage. 
  • Middlebury fought back, but Trinity was able to score the last three points of the second stanza, winning 25-18 to even the match at 1-1.
  • The Panthers got out to an early 8-2 lead in the third set, with Kelly Ferrero contributing two service aces.
  • The Bantams battled back and managed to close the gap to three (12-9), but Middlebury scored six of the next nine points, with Gabbie O'Toole registering a pair of kills, and Ferrero adding two more service aces.
  • From there, the Panthers closed out the set by winning seven straight points, highlighted by three Krazckowsky aces and a Lucy Ambach kill for the 25-12 victory.
  • Trailing12-10, Trinity went on a 5-0 run to take a 15-12 lead in the final frame. 
  • Middlebury answered with six-straight points, highlighted by a pair of kills from Laney Sullivan to give the Panthers an 18-15 edge.
  • The squads battled for the remainder of the set, but Middlebury was able to clinch the match, winning the set 25-19.
NOTES
  • Ferrero and Kraczkowsky each recorded a career high five service aces in the victory.
  • O'Toole has recorded at least 20 assists in 49 straight matches, including 30 today
  • The Panthers ended the regular season by winning six of their final eight matches.
