Middlebury Falls To #13 Wesleyan In Close Sets

The Middlebury volleyball team battled #13 Wesleyan in three close sets, but eventually fell by a score of 3-0. The Panthers wrap up the regular season at Trinity on Saturday.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • After dropping the opening point after a long rally, Middlebury responded with a 6-1 run sparked by back-to-back kills from Lillian Caldwell. 
  • The Cardinals chipped away at the deficit, knotting the match twice before taking a sizable lead. Trailing 11-10, Wesleyan went on a 10-2 run capped by a kill from Grace Dennis for the 20-13 advantage. 
  • The Cardinals tallied five of the next seven points to earn the 25-15 win.
  • Tied 5-5 in the middle frame, the Panthers had a 4-0 burst with a pair of service aces from Britt Lange to give Middlebury a 9-5 lead.
  • Wesleyan rattled off 12 of the next 16 points to take a 16-13 edge. 
  • A kill by Katie Kraczkowsky followed by a trio of Cardinal miscues allowed Middlebury to pull even at 17-17.
  • Wesleyan answered with a 6-1 run to regain the lead, making it 23-18.
  • The Panthers wouldn't go away, cutting the deficit to a pair of tallies (23-21) highlighted by two kills from Caldwell.
  • The comeback attempt was not enough, as the Cardinals recorded the final points for the 25-21 triumph.
  • A Kraczkowsky kill jolted Middlebury into the third set, propelling the squad to a 5-3 early advantage.
  • Wesleyan battled back, and the rest of the set was a back-and-forth affair.
  • Trailing 16-14, the Panthers put together a 7-1 burst capped by a kill from Ava Tuccio.
  • The Cardinals responded for a four-point spurt, deadlocking the set at 21-21.
  • A kill by Laney Sullivan and a Wesleyan attacking error gave Middlebury a 23-21 edge, but Wesleyan recorded four-straight points for the 25-23 victory.
