Volleyball Rushes Past #23 Babson

The Middlebury volleyball team opened up the New England Challenge with a victory, downing #23 Babson by a score of 3-1.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers took an early lead in the first set. With the score tied at 2-2, Middlebury recorded four unanswered points, highlighted by three Kelly Ferrero service aces, to make it 6-2.
  • The Panthers continued their strong play throughout the first set, winning six of the next nine points, with Lexi Linafelter scoring three kills.
  • Trailing 15-7, Babson put together a quick 3-0 run, slicing into the deficit to five (15-10).
  • Middlebury responded with a 4-0 burst of its own, and never looked back, claiming the first set 25-16.
  • Babson got off to a fast start in the second stanza, jumping out to a 10-4 lead with a trio of kills by Martina Jankovic Chin. 
  • Trailing 13-6, the Panthers scored six of the next eight points, including kills from Katie Kraczkowsky and Lucy Ambach, to cut the deficit in half (15-12). 
  • The Beavers answered with a 5-1 run, capped off by a Jordan Lapins kill, to increase their advantage to 20-13.
  • Middlebury rallied to tie the score at 21-21, with Laney Sullivan claiming two kills and a service ace. 
  • The final four points of the second set were tightly contested, but Babson eventually pulled away to edge the Panthers, 25-23.
  • Middlebury began the third stanza with a 5-1 run, highlighted by a pair of service aces from Britt Lange.
  • The middle of the third set was a back-and-forth affair. With the score sitting at 12-9, in favor of Middlebury, they scored five of the next eight points, with Linafelter tallying three kills during the run.
  • From there, the Panthers took control of the set, and rushed to a 25-19 victory, with Kraczkowsky securing the final kill.
  • In the fourth set, Middlebury jumped out to an early 12-4 advantage.
  • The Panthers continued their momentum, pushing their lead to 22-9.
  • Middlebury picked up three more points, closing out the set by a score of 25-14 to secure the 3-1 triumph.  
NOTES
  • Linafelter (12) and Kraczkowsky (10) both registered their seventh match with double digital kills this season.
  • With 37 assists tonight, O'Toole continues her streak of recording at least 20 assists in each match she has played.
  • Ferrero has recorded double-digit dig totals in 14 of the 16 matches this fall, including 21 tonight.
