The Middlebury volleyball team improved on its program-best start, moving to 11-0 with a 3-0 road win at Skidmore on Tuesday night. The Panthers are now one of only nine undefeated teams remaining in Division III. Middlebury returns to NESCAC play Friday when they host Trinity at 7:00 p.m.
Leading 6-5, Middlebury ran off five-straight points to go up 11-5 in the first set. Skidmore got no closer than three in a 25-16 first-set victory for the visitors.
Holding a slim 6-4 edge in the second set, the Panthers went on a 4-0 run to take a 10-4 advantage. Middlebury later led 15-9 before earning the next eight points to go up 23-9 on its way to a 25-14 win in the second set.
Middlebury gained some breathing room in the third set with a 4-0 run to go up 13-5 on a kill by
Maggie Wise. The Panthers maintained the lead for the remainder of the match on their way to the 25-20 victory.
Wise paced the offense with 11 kills and a .435 hitting percentage, while
Corley Doyle hit .421 with nine kills.
Jane Nelson added eight kills,
Gabbie O'Toole had 31 assists, while
Kelly Ferrero finished with 18 digs.
Lucy Ambach added three block assists in the win.
Zoe Beals paced the hosts with nine kills, Elizabeth Miller had 15 digs, while Audrey Powell dished out 18 assists.
