Volleyball Improves to 12-0 With Sweep Over Trinity

The Middlebury volleyball team (12-0, 4-0) swept Trinity 3-0 on Friday evening in Pepin Gymnasium. With the win, the Panthers tie the school record for longest win streak, as they add to their best start in program history. Middlebury takes on Endicott at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow, before capping the weekend with a match against Clarkson at 4:00 p.m. The Bantams (7-7, 0-3) travel to Amherst for a 2:00 p.m. start on Saturday. 
 
In the opening set, Middlebury jumped out to a 5-2 advantage capped by a service ace by Jane Nelson. Leading 13-9, the Panthers scored the next seven points to go up 20-9, easing to the 25-13 victory. 

Knotted 8-8 in the second stanza, Trinity took its first lead of the match sparked by a kill from Hareena Johnson to make it 10-8. Middlebury pulled even at 13-13 before gaining some breathing room and taking a 21-15 lead. Later, a kill by Nelson gave the Panthers a 23-20 edge, before a pair of kills by Bantams Johnson and Lola Craig tied the match at 24-24. The set saw two more ties before a kill by Nelson solidified the 28-26 win.

Middlebury wasted little time in the third session, taking a 9-2 advantage highlighted by a pair of kills from Maggie Wise. Trinity chipped away at the deficit, cutting the lead to 9-7. The Panthers responded and never looked back on their way to the 25-15 triumph.

Wise led all players with 10 kills and dug up 12 balls, while Gabbie O'Toole had 32 assists for Middlebury. Nelson recorded a game-high 15 digs, while Lucy Ambach had five blocks.

Lola Craig recorded a team-high six kills for the Bantams, while Johnson and Natalia Ortiz each had 11 digs.
