The Panther men's soccer team scored in the 20th minute and made the goal stand up, as 14th-ranked Middlebury (6-0-0, 3-0-0) earned a 1-0 NESCAC road win at Hamilton (2-3-1, 0-3-0) on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers return to action next Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. start at Connecticut College.
The game's lone tally came at the 20:36 mark as
Shane Farrell scored the first of his career.
Jordan Saint-Louis played the ball ahead to
Hank Nelson on the right side, before Nelson sent a cross into penalty spot area. Farrell was there to put the pass home as the Panthers went up, 1-0. The assist for Nelson was the first point of his career.
Middlebury had a couple of great chances to add to its lead late in the game, but were unable to find the back of the net. Saint-Louis and
Brandon Reid worked a nice play, but the scoring chance was broken up by a defender.
Soon after,
Jonah Roberts found himself with space on the right side, but his offer sailed just wide of the left post.
Hamilton held a 16-11 shots advantage in the game and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.
Ryan Grady made three saves in goal to earn his fourth shutout of the season. Ben Ziegler made six stops for the Continentals.
Middlebury has now not allowed a goal in its last 448:51 of action.
