The sixth-ranked Middlebury men's soccer team (6-1-0, 3-1-0) saw its six-game win streak come to an end, suffering a 1-0 loss at Connecticut College (5-2-0, 4-1-0) on Saturday. The Panthers have a quick turnaround, hosting #20 Amherst on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
The first half saw back-and-forth action, with the best chance for Middlebury coming at the 33:59 mark.
Brendan Barry took a free kick from midfield that Camel goaltender Sam Maidenberg just got a hand on above his head, corralling the ball to keep the game scoreless. The Panthers threatened again just four minutes later, but
Andriy Proctor's shot towards the bottom right corner was thwarted by Maidenberg as the teams headed into the break tied at 0-0.
The game's lone goal came late, as Augie Djerdaj converted a penalty kick with just 4:21 remaining. After the Panthers were whistled for a foul in the box, Djerdaj scored the penalty kick with a high-hard shot to the upper part of the net as Panther keeper
Ryan Grady guessed to his right. The goal was just the second given up by Middlebury all season and the first in the second half.
The Camels held a slim 11-9 shots advantage in the game and took five of the game's six penalty kicks. Grady finished with four saves in goal, while Maidenberg made six stops for the hosts.
