Lawson & Alkier Wins Lead Ski Team To Carnival Victory

Middlebury picked up a big carnival win on Saturday, edging the University of Vermont by just two points (850-848) to take home the title. Justin Alkier picked up a victory on the alpine side, as did Alexandra Lawson for the nordic team. Alpine races were held at Sunday River, while the nordic athletes competed at Black Mountain. The Panthers are back in action next weekend at the Williams Carnival.

The Middlebury women dominated the 5K freestyle event with three racers in the top four. Lawson's victory was her second of the season, as she covered the course in 12:43. Sophia Laukli, who had won an impressive four-consecutive races, placed second only to her teammate, coming in with a time of 12:58. Annika Landis finished the race in 13:14, good for fourth place.

Peter Wolter led the Panther men, covering the 10K course in 23:09, good for second place overall. Josh Valentine was next for Middlebury, placing 17th overall (24:37), followed by Willson Moore in 22nd place (24:54).

Alkier earned his second win of the season for the men's alpine squad, covering the two giant slalom runs with a time of 2:14.40. Erik Arvidsson wasn't far back, placing fourth overall in 2:14.95. Rounding out the scorers with a time of 2:16.79, was Pate Campbell, who placed 12th as the team finished second in the event.

Nina Reichhelm was the top finisher on the women's side, covering the two runs with a time of 2:20.93 to come in eighth. Madison Lord was next in 16th place (2:22.730, followed closely by Emma Hall in 17th (2:22.95).
