Klein Breaks School Record in Shot Put

The Middlebury men's and women's indoor track and field teams participated at the Tufts Cupid Challenge on Saturday. There was no team scoring at the meet, but the Panthers recorded several top-10 finishes between both the men's and women's teams. Middlebury returns to action February 14th-15th when they head to Boston University for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational.

Nathaniel Klein broke school record in shot put with a heave of 49'9.25", finishing with runner-up honors. The previous mark has stood since 2014, when Daniel Plunkett's recorded a toss of 48'11.75". Klein also placed eighth in the weight throw with a mark of 45'4.25".

Theo Henderson earned top-honors in the 5,000m with a time of 15:02.53. Alexander Kessler won his heat in the same event, placing eighth overall with a time of 15:08.80.

Will Meyer recorded a third-place finish in the 3,000m, clocking in at 8:42.58. The distance medley relay (Liam Hoagland, William Robertson, Sawyer Tadano and Nathan Hill crossed the finish line in fourth (10:10.85).

James McGaugh clocked in at 1:56.91 in the 800m, recording a fourth-place finish. Jonathan Fisher and Tadano each earned sixth-place finishes. Fished soared to a height of 6'2.75" in the high jump, while Tadano clocked in at 1:24.19 in the 600m.

The women's team saw two individuals and one relay earn top-honors. Talia Ruxin crossed the finish line in first in the 5,000m with a time of 17:45.96, six seconds ahead of the next runner. Cassie Kearney was victorious in the 800m with a time of 2:18.22. The 4x400m relay (Kearney, Grace Desmond, Julia Munz and Gretchen McGrath) won the event with a time of 4:00.22.

In the mile, Katie Glew placed second, clocking in at 5:07.03. The distance medley relay team comprised of Nicole Johnson, McGrath, Anna Willig and Kearney earned runner-up honors with a time of 12:06.57. Ava O'Mara also placed second, crossing the finish line in 1:40.57 in the 600m.

Tasha Greene earned third-place honors with a time of 10:07.27 in the 3,000m. Desmond placed fourth in the 60m hurdles (9.35), while Nicole Johnson placed fifth in the 800m (2:20.70). Emily Ray earned sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 43'11.25".
