The Middlebury swimming and diving teams competed in a tri-meet hosted by Hamilton on Saturday afternoon. The men's team topped the hosts 167-110, but fell to Williams 184-98. The victory over the Continentals was head coach Bob Rueppel's 100th-career win on the men's side. The women's squad also downed Hamilton (185-113), but came up short against the Ephs (187-108).
The men's 200-yard freestyle relay team (Jake Gaughan, Corey Jalbert, Isaac Esposito and Ben Merz) posted a winning time of 1:28.15. Jalbert also earned a pair of individual runner-up finishes in the 50-yard free (22.11) and the 100-yard free (49.10).
Other second-place finishes came from Will Pannos in the 100-yard fly (53.56) and Jason Rickenbacher off the 3-meter diving board (225.30 points). Rickenbacher recorded 209.25 points to earn third place off the 1-meter.
Individual third place honors also came from Ian Johnston in the 1,000-yard free (10:37.98), Fran Curran in the 200-yard free (1:50.38) and Aska Matsuda in the 500-yard free (4:59.04).
The Panthers posted a pair of relay victories on the women's side. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the squad (Courtney Gantt, Erin Kelly, Frances VanderMeer and Lily Siemasko) won the event with a time of 1:40.70. The 200-yard medley relay comprised of VanderMeer, Haley Hutchinson, Maddie McKean and Kelly recorded a winning time of 1:50.68.
Hutchinson was also an individual victor in the 200-yard IM (2:12.83) and earned runner-up honors in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.28). VanderMeer placed second in the 50-yard backstroke (27.44) and the 50-yard butterfly (26.24), while Gantt was second in the 50-yard free with a time of 25.42.
Individual third-place finishes came from Georgia House in the 1,000-yard free (11:02.70), Katie Cantrell in the 500-yard free (5:26.67), McKean in the 50-yard fly (26.98) and Audrey Hse in the 200-yard IM (2:17.83). Off the boards, Olivia Rieur earned a pair of third-place finishes, tallying 241.05 points off the 1-meter and 250.80 points off the 3-meter.
