Men’s Swimming and Diving Competes On Day Three of NESCAC Meet

The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team competed on day three of the NESCAC Championships. Through 18 events, #9 Tufts continues to lead the way in the team standings with 1,198 points, followed by #21 Williams (1,168 points) and #16 Amherst (894 points) in third place. The Panthers sit in seventh with one day remaining, accumulating 566 points.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • In the 100-yard breaststroke, Paul Shen clocked an NCAA 'B' cut time of 55.17 in the prelims to claim a spot in the championship swim. Shen posted a clocking of 56.06 for eighth during the evening session.
  • Middlebury kicked off the evening session with the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Andrew Dou, Shen, Luke McNamara and Cal Hale swam a combined time of 1:31.13 to earn ninth place. The team composed of Rodin McKenna, Mark Pearcy, Ryan Mauney and Prin Chantarangkul raced to the wall in 16th with an effort of 1:32.24.
  • Luke McNamara claimed the eighth-fastest preliminary time (4:00.34) in the 400 individual medley (IM) to clinch a spot in the championship final. He went on to secure eighth place in the final with a time of 4:02.73. 
  • Owen White scored 380.40 points in the 3-meter diving championship final, good for sixth place.
  • Keith Hartman earned 15th in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:42.98. 
NOTES
  • Chaz Witter narrowly missed the 3-meter diving final, amassing 305.25 points to finish in ninth place.
  • Three NESCAC Championship records fell on Saturday, including the 200 medley relay, the 400 IM and 100 breast. 
The Panthers will wrap up the four-day championship on Sunday, with preliminaries beginning at 9:00 a.m. and the final session starting at 5:30 p.m.
