Track & Field Boasts Several Winners at Middlebury Winterfell

The Middlebury men's and women's indoor track and field teams hosted their Winterfell Meet on Saturday, boasting several stellar performances. The women placed second among the four competing schools with 179.50 points, trailing only NCAA Division I Vermont (184.50) by a slim margin. The men recorded 150 points, placing second behind Vermont (263). Both Middlebury teams return to action next weekend, hosting the Middlebury Invitational on Saturday on the New Balance Foundation Track in Virtue Field House.

Middlebury had number of winners on the men's side, led by Nathaniel Klein in the 35-pound weight throw with a heave of 49'4.25". The Panthers won a pair of jumping events, as Justin Moran sailed 21'2" to take top honors in the long jump and Walker Coleman was first in the triple jump (41'5.25"). The hosts also won the 4x800 relay, as the quartet of Liam Hoagland, Luke Lorenz, Johnny LaFortune and Jack Rudnick finished in in 8:33.04.

A contingent of Panthers took second in their respective events, with Nathan Hill the second runner to cross the finish line in the mile in 4:15.88. Munya Munyati was the runner up in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.21 seconds, while William Robertson placed in that same spot in the 600 meters in 1:25.14.

In the field events, Jonathan Fisher was second in the high jump with a height of 6'2.75".

For the women, Nicole Johnson ran a swift time of 1:40.29 to win the 600 meters, while the 4x400 relay team of Julia McClain, Julia Munz, Audrey Grimes and Ava O'Mara teamed up for a top time of 4:05.78. Emily Ray added a win in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 45'10".

The Panthers had a host of second-place performances, including and Grace Desmond (9.31) in the 60-meter hurdles and high jump (5'1"), along with Lizzie Walkes (8.20) in the 60-meter dash. Grace Kirkpatrick slotted second in the longest race of the meet, finishing the 3,000 meters in 11:06.31. The Panthers also placed second in the 4x800 relay in 10:06.46.

Cady Burns covered a distance of 34'6.25" in the triple jump, while Leah Granger cleared 10'6" in the pole vault as both added second-place efforts in their respective field events.
