Middlebury broke open up 4-3 game with four runs in the sixth inning, on its way to a 9-3 win over Union (2-6) in Orlando, Florida on Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers (8-4) are off until Friday, when they host game one of a three-game NESCAC West series against Hamilton at noon in Orlando.

Middlebury took a 1-0 lead in the second when Sam Graf singled to center and later scored on a base hit to left by Kevin Woodring.

Union tied the game in the fourth with an unearned run on a single by Kevin Chaimowitz. The Dutchmen went on top 2-1 the following inning on an RBI groundout by Colin Kelly.

Graf tied the game for the Panthers in the bottom of the fourth, belting a solo shot to left. Middlebury regained the lead later in the inning after Woodring walked and later scored when Andrew Gough singled to left.

Union came right back to tie the game (3-3) in the top of the fifth when Andy Labeck led off the inning with a homer to center.

The back-and-forth battle continued in the fifth, as Hayden Smith opened the frame with a triple and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Justin Han.

Leading 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth, the Panthers plated four runs for an 8-3 lead. Woodring led off with a solo homer to left, Smith walked with the bases loaded, before Brooks Carroll and Smith both scored on a single to right by Han.

The Panthers added a run in the eighth on an RBI groundout by Hamilton Evans, plating Gough, for the 9-3 victory.

Bobby Sullivan (2-0) picked up the win with two innings of relief, with all six outs coming via strikeout. Starter Jackson Atwood allowed no earned runs through three innings, while Alex Rosario, Conor Himstead and George Goldstein each tossed an inning of scoreless relief.

Woodring went 3-3 with a double, homer, two runs scored and two RBI, while Graf finished 3-4 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI. Gough went 3-3 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, while Han had a 2-4 day with three runs driven in.

Union starter Noah VanSickle (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up six runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings of work.

Joe Ganim led the Union hits, going 2-4 with a double and a run scored, while Labeck homered.
