Henry Ayers, Sam Gersch and Christian Zebrowski (L to R) followed up all-conference praise with all-region laurels.
The Middlebury baseball team saw three student-athletes selected to the D3baseball.com and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) all-region squads.
Henry Ayers was tabbed the Region 1 Rookie of the Year by the media outlet while collecting a pair of first-team nods, while both organizations tabbed
Sam Gersch to the second team and
Christian Zebrowski landed on D3baseball.com's third team.
HONOREE HIGHLIGHTS
- Ayers (Rookie of the Year & First Team)
- Ayers becomes the program's first player since at least 2012 to garner the rookie of the year laurel.
- In his collegiate introduction, the Panther logged a .476 batting average that headlined the NESCAC and currently slots second in Division III.
- Ayers was sent down on strikes just five times across 145 at-bats, making him the league's most difficult batter to fan and the 10th toughest nationally (29.0).
- He also led the conference in hits (69), slugging percentage (.676) and on-base plus slugging (OPS - 1.182). His base hit mark rewrote the single-season school record.
- The Panther reached base safely in 33 of his 34 starts and logged multi-hit efforts in each of the team's five postseason contests.
- Gersch (Second Team)
- After his initial season with the navy and white, Gersch's hitting clip trailed only Ayers and Tufts' Jack Kamin in the conference and ranked 56th in Division III (.418).
- The first-year athlete was the lone Middlebury player to compete in all 36 games during the campaign.
- The rookie ranked in the top 10 across numerous categories leaguewide, including on-base percentage (fourth - .503), OPS (fourth - 1.085), stolen bases (fourth - 23), hits (tied for sixth - 51) and slugging percentage (eighth - .582).
- Gersch logged hits in each of the five NESCAC Tournament bouts, with multiple knocks in four of the five. He tallied eight runs scored during action in the league bracket.
- Zebrowski (Third Team)
- Zebrowski claims the first regional honor of his career.
- The sophomore posted 34.1 innings of action across 14 appearances, tallying a 2.36 earned-run average (ERA) and a perfect 6-0 mark.
- Zebrowski limited baserunners, scattering 27 hits across the body of work. He conceded just 10 free passes while punching out 42 opposing hitters.
- The hurler closed the season with 7.1 scoreless innings and seven strikeouts in NESCAC postseason competition.
