Box Score Wisconsin-Whitewater scored in the bottom of the ninth inning to pick up a 4-3 win over Middlebury (6-4) on Monday morning. The Panthers return to action with a single game against Thomas on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in Orlando, Florida.
The 15th-ranked Warhawks got on the board in the third inning with an RBI single from Alex Doud and an RBI groundout from Mike Aiello.
In the fourth, Henry Strmecki led off with a single through the right side and moved to second on a groundout. He was later retired on a fielder's choice, but Hayden Smith scored when Brooks Carroll belted a double to left.
Middlebury moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the fifth when Phil Bernstein hit a two-run homer, driving in Alan Guild, who had reached on an error.
Wisconsin-Whitewater tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a run-scoring single from Cal Aldridge.
The Panthers threatened in the sixth with a lead off double by Andrew Hennings, but were unable to take the lead. The hit by Hennings gave him at least one in each of the eight games he has played
In the ninth, the Warhawks loaded the bases before having a runner thrown out at the plate on a fielder's choice. With the bases full and one out, the Panthers tried to turn a double play, but were unsuccessful as Noah Jensen scored the game-winning run.
Alex Price threw eight innings for the Panthers, allowing four runs with five strikeouts, while George Goldstein (1-1) suffered the loss. Eight different Middlebury players had hits in the game, with Hennings, Carroll and Guild earning doubles and a homer from Bernstein.
Connor Spear (1-0) picked up the win with two innings of hitless relief. Nick Schrader went 3-5, while Aldrige was 2-3 in the game.
