Four members of the Middlebury men's track & field team participated on day two of the NCAA Outdoor Championships, highlighted by a strong showing in the 800-meter run from Nathan Hill. The three-day event is taking place at the Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
During Friday's preliminary run, Jimmy Martinez posted a time of 48.21 in the 400-meter dash, good for 15th place. The top finisher in the three heats along with the next six fastest times will run in the finals on Saturday.
Following nearly a three-hour weather delay, Nicholas Hendrix was 14th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.99. During the final event of the day, Hill qualified for Saturday's final with a preliminary time of 1:51.09, good for eighth place. He entered Friday's race as the 19th-seeded runner. Hill will race for a national title on Saturday at 2:50 p.m.
James Mulliken also competed in the same event, crossing the line in 20th place with a mark of 1:56.32.
