Middlebury got back on the winning track, defeating No. 15 Tufts (6-2, 0-1) on the road Sunday by a 6-3 score in NESCAC action. The match took place in the Gantcher Center. The third-ranked Panthers (11-3, 3-1) return to action on Saturday with a conference home match against No. 2 Bowdoin at 2:00 p.m.
During doubles play, the visitors moved out to a 2-0 lead. The No. 2 duo of William de Quant and Noah Farrell posted an 8-1 victory over Carl-Herman Grant and Nathan Niemic. The top Panther team of Lubomir Cuba and Kyle Schlanger doubled the advantage via a narrow 8-6 triumph over Zain Ali and Rohan Gupte. The Jumbos got on the board with an 8-6 win in the third spot.
In singles action, Schlanger gave Middlebury a 3-1 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Grant at No. 4. Atop the lineup, Cuba pushed the Panther advantage to 4-1 via a 6-4, 7-5 win against Gupte.
Tufts pulled to within one at 4-3 with straight-set victories at No. 2 and No. 3.
Nate Eazor clinched the match for the visitors with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 win over Niemiec in the fifth spot. Andre Xiao concluded the scoring with the sixth team point for the Panthers, battling back from a set down for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Benjamin Biswas at the bottom of the lineup.
