Panther Men Tally Two Wins, Including Upset of No. 1 Emory

The sixth-ranked Panther men's tennis team posted a pair of wins on Saturday, picking up a 6-3 triumph over NESCAC foe Trinity, followed by a 7-2 win against top-ranked Emory. Both matches took place at Trinity's Paul Assaiante Tennis Center in Connecticut. The Panthers (16-3), winners of six-straight matches, return to action on Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. contest at No. 13 Wesleyan.

In the match against Trinity (5-7, 0-6), the doubles tandem of Lubomir Cuba and Kyle Schlanger started things with an 8-2 victory at No. 1 over Rex Glickman and Kyle Scheffers. The No. 2 flight of William de Quant and Noah Farrell won 8-2 over Courtland Boyle and Robert Boyle, while the third team of Timo van der Geest and Peter Martin made it 3-0 with an 8-4 triumph over Scott Danforth and Chris Bilicic.

In singles action, Aleksandr Samets claimed the team's fourth point at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alex Fallone, while Alex Vanezis clinched the match at the third spot with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Chris Caskin.

The Bantams got on the board with a straight-set win in the top spot. The Panthers tallied their sixth point when Adam Guo posted a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Danforth. Trinity rounded out the scoring with three-set wins at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively.

Later in the day against Emory (14-3), the Panthers swept the doubles matches as the team of de Quant and Farrell won by an 8-1 score over Adrien Bouchet and Max Renke in the No. 2 flight. Atop the lineup, Cuba and Schlanger doubled the lead with an 8-1 win against Scott Rubenstein and James Spaulding, while van der Geest and Martin posted an 8-3 triumph in the third spot versus Jonathan Jemison and Hayden Cassone.

During singles action, the Panthers continued that wave of success. In the No. 2 spot, Farrell was victorious by scores of 6-3, 6-2 over Cassone, while Cuba clinched the match and the team's fifth point with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Jemison in the top spot. Minutes later, de Quant made the score 6-0 via a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the No. 3 slot against Alec Josepher. Schlanger picked up Middlebury's seventh point during a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 4 against Bouchet.

The Eagles earned their two points of the match with three-set victories at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, for the final 7-2 score.
