No. 6 Panther Men Tally Two Home Victories

The sixth-ranked Panther men's tennis team recorded two victories at home on Sunday, picking up a 9-0 triumph over Colby-Sawyer, followed by an 8-1 win over Skidmore. The matches took place in the Nelson Recreational Center due to unseasonably cold weather. The Panthers (14-3), winners of four-straight matches, return to action on Saturday with a contest at Trinity beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by a 3:30 p.m. battle with top-ranked Emory in Connecticut.

In the match against Colby-Sawyer (3-10), the doubles tandem of Weston Brach and Aleksandr Samets started things off notching the team's first point with an 8-0 victory at No. 3 over Alex Wright and Andrew Peloquin. The No. 2 flight of Timo van der Geest and Peter Martin won 8-1 over Matt Burke and Cam Lynch, while the top team of William de Quant and Noah Farrell made it 3-0 with an 8-1 triumph over Gustav Jigrup.

In singles action, Thorne Gregory claimed the team's fourth point at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ross Kenney, while Brach clinched the match at the fourth spot with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Peloquin. Adam Guo dropped just one game for a 6-1, 6-0 triumph against Burke, while Alex Vanezis made the score 7-0 via a 6-2, 6-0 win over Wright.

The final two points came from van der Geest over Jigrup in the top spot (6-2, 6-3) and Cole Sutton at No. 5 against Lynch (6-2, 6-0).

Later in the day against Skidmore (10-4), the Panthers swept the doubles matches as the team of de Quant and Farrell won by an 8-4 score over Travis Leaf and Lucas Pickering in the No. 2 flight. Atop the lineup, Lubomir Cuba and Kyle Schlanger doubled the lead with an 8-6 win against Steven Koulouris and JT Wynne, while van der Geest and Martin posted an 8-6 triumph in the third spot versus Jack McClaren and Jason Keye.

During singles action, the Panthers continued that success. In the No. 1 spot, Cuba was victorious by scores of 6-2, 6-4 over Koulouris, while de Quant clinched the match and the team's fifth point with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Leaf in the third spot. Seconds later, Schlanger made the score 6-0 via a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 slot against McClaren.

The Thoroughbreds earned their lone point of the match with a three-set victory at No. 2.

Middlebury tallied the final two points with a 6-4, 6-4 win from Nate Eazor at No. 5 over Ted Berkowitz, while Andre Xiao claimed a 7-6 (4), 6-1 triumph against Pickering in the sixth position for the 8-1 final.
