Third-ranked Middlebury completed its spring trip to Southern California on Saturday, falling to No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (18-3) by an 8-1 score. The match was played at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. The Panthers conclude their spring trip with a 10-2 record, knocking off both a Division I and Division II while out west. Middlebury returns to action next Saturday with a 10:00 a.m. NESCAC road tilt at No. 5 Williams.
During doubles action, the Panthers tallied their lone point of the match when the No. 2 team of William de Quant and Nate Eazor edged Oscar Burney and Jack Katzman, 8-6. The Stags posted narrow 9-7 and 8-6 tallies at No. 1 and No. 3 for a 2-1 advantage.
In singles, Middlebury dropped all six matches with the first three ending in straight sets and the remaining trio going to a third.
